Aotearoa New Zealand

From plantation to permanent native forest.

We're working out how to guide ageing pine plantations back toward native forest — keeping people employed and hillsides stable along the way.

Why we're here

A space for honest conversation

Hundreds of thousands of hectares of exotic plantation are reaching maturity, much of it on steep, erosion-prone land that was once native forest.

Transitioning that land back is possible, but the pathways are new and the rules keep shifting. This site is a starting point for honest conversation with the people working it out: foresters, carbon brokers, officials, researchers, and the communities on the ground.

Community first

Rangitatau is a project with people, not just trees.

The forest sits in the rohe of the Kai Iwi community near Whanganui. We want to work alongside locals as the transition unfolds — if that's you, get in touch.
